Zero 7 release a new album 'Yeah Ghost'

Zero 7 release a new single Medicine Man (21st September) followed by a new album Yeah Ghost on the 28th September.

Zero 7 is duo Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker.   They have been known over the past ten years or so for making ambient spacey dub pop music but the new album Yeah Ghost sees the duo move into new territory.

Yeah Ghost is more uptempo and errs away from their previous ambient dub outings  towards a more dance pop sensibility, with a delicate hint of acoustic folk. But the album also includes four instrumental tracks derived from their experimental side projects (Kling/Ingrid Eto) and sampled, overdubbed and rebuilt from scratch.

From the evocative intro Count Me Out to the album’s shuffling, twitchy closer All Of Us – via the haunting Solastalgia and Ghost sYMbOL avant-garde electronic and distorted vocals – it’s unlike anything else I have heard from Zero 7 hithero.

Zero 7 use an array of young vocal talent on Yeah Ghost including singer Eska who appears on Mr McGee, Medicine Man, Sleeper and The Road.

Martha Tilston, descendant of folk royalty and owner of a voice of rare crystalline beauty, provides vocals on Pop Art Blue while Jackie Daniels sings on Ghost sYMbOL. And Henry Binns sings vocals on Everything Up (Zizou), which has been reworked by a host of remixers de jour Joker and Ginz, Mock n Toof and Gold Panda.

Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker began their musical career as sound engineers before producing remixes for the likes of Radiohead, N.E.R.D, Sneaker Pimps and Lambchop. In 2001 they released their critically-acclaimed debut Simple Things, followed by 2 more albums, When It Falls (2004) and The Garden (2006).

In between albums, Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker experimented with pared-back electronic side-projects, such as the current Kling EP, but now refocus on Zero 7 with their most ambitious album to date.

Zero 7 will be promoting Yeah Ghost with a UK tour.
