Galapaghost is the conception of Casey Chandler, a 22 year old graduate of music production.
During the summer of 2009, Chandler began writing a new batch of songs with his ukele.
His style began to take influence from bands he’d always admired like Midlake, Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele, and Neil Young. His song craft drastically changed and he focused more on arrangements and vocal melodies, rather than riffs. Instead of being overindulgent with his mixes and doing excessive layering with his songs like he did with past songs, Chandler decided to peel back layers.
This has opened up his songs and allowed for more organic growth. More importantly, the mixes weren’t being suffocated by too much instrumentation anymore. Apparently due to his post-graduate poor financial situation,Casey Chandler’s recording equipment is extremely limited. Instead of seeing this as a crutch, he saw this as a blessing. He claims to work best under limitations.
In the Autumn of 2009, armed with only an Shure SM57, an MBox, a few guitars, and some cheap percussion instruments, Casey Chandler began his first recordings for Galapaghost. Holed up in a tiny apartment in Queens, New York he recorded his first EP entitled Our Lost Generation in just two days.
Recording around his day job he completed recordings in two back to back 12 hour days. Another few days of mixing and his six song, 20 minute EP was finished. A couple months later, Casey Chandler recorded his 2nd and latest EP as Galapaghost entitled Neptunes, which is another six song, 20 minute EP.
Casey Chandler wrote, played, recorded, and mixed every song on both EP’s. He released both EP’s on iTunes.
