Adele Adkins was widely expected to be the voice of 2007, after being signed up by XL records, at the end of 2006. Signed with just four songs to her name it took Adele until May 2007 to start writing the necessary new material. Even then it was only after the break up with her boyfriend that she seriously got down to writing , saying that “When I’m happy I aint got time to write songs”.

Such has been her impact on the London music scene, that a Jools Holland producer booked her for the tv show before she had recorded a single. Amazingly, Adele has already won a Critics Choice Brit Award, although this hasn’t been presented yet.

Adele’s album 19 is due for release in February 2008.
