It is five years since Trashcan Sinatras last album, Weightlifting, in the meantime the band toured for a couple of years before settling down to write some new material. The songs, full of relaxed harmonies, typical of the Trashcans music, were set to arrangements in a back room in South side Glasgow during the summer of 2007 and recorded in New York in the winter.

During recording the band managed to bag seventies singer Carly Simon to sing on the track Should I Pray, and another feminine element comes from Ali Smith, the poet whose words in Half An Apple had already been put to music for the bands contribution to Chemikal Underground’s 2007 album Ballads Of The Book a co-operation between Scottish writers and musicians.

So successful was the pairing of Smith’s poetry and Trashcans arrangements that the band worked their magic on another of her pieces resulting in the title track of the new album In The Music.

“I guess with Carly, Ali and with an Eddi Reader co-write plus  fellow writers’ Paul Livingston and Frank Reader in long term relationships with new partners, there is a bit of a feminine addition to this record,” says vocalist and guitarist John Douglas, “When we play music together, it just seems special, None of us can leave this behind us for any period of time. With this album we gave ourselves space to be creative, and to have faith in what we were doing – and it’s totally satisfying.”

Trashcan Sinatras new album In The Music is released on Lo-Five Records on September 14, while the brand new single I Wish is released on July 27.
