The Son(s) debut album
With a beautiful singing voice reminiscent of the sound and sincerity of Robert Wyatt, The Son(s) release a very impressive self-titled debut album on the Olive Grove label on 7th March.
The album begins with Dogs, Boys & Men, a rocking start to the album with a distinctly different vocal delivery which sounds like a very good impression of Paolo Nutini!
The album continues with Sonny, You’ll Never Get That Ride andwith this the album simmers down into a relaxing tempo with its chilled heavenly songs. Each track thereafter fills my head with hazy lazy day rocking in a chair on a wooden veranda watching the world go by. The music is honey sweet and the vocal harmonies give the songs a dreamy depth – wonderful!
On first hearing the album it didn’t give me a wow factor but enough interest to listen again. Then a third, fourth, fifth time; and with each listen the album began to grow on me – a slow burner indeed.
The Son(s) debut album includes eleven new songs including their current single, Radar. Their sound oozes laid back Americana guitars and the odd Beach Boys harmony.
It’s still very cold outside but the sun is shining brightly, for some reason that seems perfect weather to listen to this wonderful album.
The Son(s) appear elusive whether shunning the spotlight or simply not caring for the intrusion I’m not sure; and from the press release it appears The Son(s) started off as three men in Edinburgh but only one remained to write and record these beautiful songs.
The Son(s) is released on 7th March on Olive Grove.
