Eighties cult indie band The Pastels, who were part of the C86 scene,  have more recently been working alongside Japanese duo Tenniscoats and the fruits of the collaboration can be found in a new album, single and UK tour.

Two Sunsets is the exciting release from the two bands, an exceptional set of twelve songs described by Saya of Tenniscoats as “Something like The Pastels underneath sounding beautiful like a big cloud, with Tenniscoats flying over.

The odd collaboration came about after the two bands had toured together as Pastels Steven McRobbie recalls;

“The idea of us recording together came from Tenniscoats, they suggested they would like to record with us at the end of a Scottish tour in 2006. I know we were excited but maybe wondering if they meant some kind of completely improvised session. But it turned out Tenniscoats already had a song, Two Sunsets, which they wanted to record with us and another, slightly more abstract piece called Welcome To The Sea which was also beautiful.”

The double A side single taken from the album is Vivid Youth/About You and will be available as 7″ or download from August 3, with the album scheduled for September 7.

The joint project will also be taking to the road in the UK and also a date in France in September to promote the new album.
