The Cherry Tree Parade play alternative indie-flavoured pop music
The Cherry Tree Parade come from Kansas City. They play alternative indie-flavoured pop music that is both instantly accessible and multi-faceted in equal measures.
I hear leftfield pop music similar to Eels and a stripped down, less chaotic Arcade Fire in songs such as Pity Party For Penny and the wonderfully titled, Beards Grow Bodies Go, which is currently available on their MySpace page. But in other songs such as Perfectly Polyphonic I hear strains of the warm, orchestral alternative pop of Mercury Rev and an err towards an 1980’s analogue pop. Does anyone remember The Lotus Eaters?
The self-titled Cherry Tree Parade EP is well produced and will hopefully be their entry point for commercial recognition. Alongside the ubiquitous guitars and drums the imaginary use of pianos, synthesizers and the odd banjo give this young band’s music a serious depth and diversity often lacking in debutants; and complimenting the instrumental arrangements, brothers Jon and Matthew Collins sing some great harmonies.
The Cherry Tree Parade are Jon Collins (piano/synth, guitar, vocals, bass), Matthew Collins (guitar, keyboards, percussion, programming, vocals), Brandon Chavez (guitar), Alex Reed (drums, percussion). They make beautiful, intellectual pop music and their debut self-titled EP is availble now as a digital download.
The Cherry Tree Parade EP consists of five songs:
Perfectly Polyphonic
Pity Party for Penny
June Bugs in July
Get Down
Reflect
