Tempelhof new single Leaving Home / Cage
Following their excellent 2009 debut album, We Were Not There For The Beginning, We Won’t Be There For The End, Italian electronic post-rock duo Tempelhof will release a two-track 12” vinyl release & digital download.
Both Leaving Home and Cage were actually recorded before the album’s release and offer a similar deep, dark post gothic rock artrock shoegazing meets experimental electronic tone and temperament.
Leaving Home starts with a melodic piano and whispering vocals. But an off-centre metallic sounding beat has this pop song floating around in space. The vocal sound has me thinking of gothic churches, big acoustic and grandiose. Post rock beats chop and change, taking me on another Tempelhof trip.
Cage is equally poignant with its industrial beat fractures and ghostly strings. The vocal delivery reminds me of the gravelly tones of Butler from The Psychedelic Furs and the outro once again shows Templhof’s love of filmscores and soundtracks.
Leaving Home / Cage is limited to 250 one-sided hand painted vinyl in a custom-made sleeve. The 12” vinyl is individually numbered and painted making up one section of an image of rural North-East England (the home of the wonderful Distraction Records) by contemporary artist Polly Bound.
