Martin Scorsese’s latest film release will be Shine a light, a rockumentary featuring rock stalwarts The Rolling Stones.
The film was shot over two nights at New Yorks Beacon Theatre during the bands Bigger Bang tour in 2006. Ironically the gig is played to an audience of just a few thousand rather than the tens of thousands that would see the stadium gigs, and reported 1 million that turned up at Brazil’s Copacana Beach party.
The intimacy of the gig is mixed with backstage footage and some rare archive footage and interviews.
Scorcese’s direction of The Band’s farewell gig, The Last Waltz remains as the cinematic benchmark of the genre.
The film is released on 4 April 2008.
