Bollocks to Poverty - Ready to Air Guitar Rock at the Reading Festival

On Thursday 21 August, charity ActionAid will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘largest air guitar ensemble’ and where better to gather together hundreds of wannabe rockers than Reading Festival?

The charity is inviting all festival goers to their Bollocks to Poverty tent, a regular feature at Reading, to take part in the record breaking attempt on the first evening of the festival.

Leading the crowd will be ‘expert’ air guitarist and UK Air Guitar Championships regular, Dave ‘Wildman’ Pickles. A representative from Guinness World Records will also be on hand to check entrants abide by the stringent rules. All air guitars must be played correctly and consistently in order to qualify.

ActionAid feel’s confident Reading fans will enter into the true spirit of air guitar and together, they can thrash this record.

The most important part of the attempt, the tune itself, is still being kept top secret as ActionAid representatives trawl their Iron Maiden, Motorhead and Guns N Roses collections, debating whether to keep it classic or surprise the crowd with something a bit more inventive.

The same weekend as the record-breaking attempt, hundreds more nimble fingered rock-lovers will be descending on the unsuspecting city of Oulu in Finland for the World Air Guitar Championships (including the winner of the UK Air Guitar Championships, decided on 8 August).

To get people in the mood Bollocks to Poverty are also running an online competition to win a pair of tickets to Reading festival. All entrants have to do is create their own air guitar video and upload it to www.myspace.com/bollockstopoverty and the best one wins. Please see the site for more information.

Once considered only the pastime of wannabe 80’s rockers and long-haired Bohemian Rhapsody fans, it seems that air guitar is definitely back in style. So limber up your fingers and get ready to strum your stuff for charity………
