I recently saw RazorBladeKisses described as ‘UK Toybox Goth’, a term that I have to admit I am not familiar with, but that pretty much sums up the band’s image if not their music.
Layla and Azadeh are the lead vocalists, now residing in the UK they draw their inspiration from their Persian/Iranian roots, taking inspiration from the Persian fairytales and mythology that they grew up with.
Persian tales tend to have a sinister edge which is conveyed through the fantasy world RazorBladeKisses create with their lyrics and music. The mysterious lyrics and brooding melodies throughout the album continue to lure and tease the listener into a false sense of security whilst pushing musical boundaries.
The album Twinkle, Twinkle Little Scar promises to take the listener on a spine tingling musical journey contrasting mystical atmospheric trip hop soundscapes with powerful anthemic rock and sugary sweet yet haunting music box pop. This album delivers what can only be described as beautifully haunting magical music.
Included on the album are the tracks Ballerina and The Butterfly which were released on a double A sided single in August this year to critical acclaim. You can watch the video Ballerina by RazorBladeKisses here:
