Smoke On The Water was voted the number one guitar riff in a survey of students across music schools in London. The Deep Purple track beating off opposition from Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, that came in at number two.

Aerosmith’s Walk This Way was at number three, surprisingly beating the classic Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix into fourth.

Even more surprising to me, Guns N’Roses were voted fifth and sixth with Sweet Child Of Mine and Paradise City respectively.

Ace Of Spades by Motorhead, Enter Sandman by Metallica, Under The Bridge by The Red Hot Chilli Peppers and yet another Guns N’Roses track Run To The Jungle, make up the top ten.
