Ian Brown attacks Kylie Minogue

Terry Lane - Thursday 11.10.07, 20:02pm

Ian Brown former Stone Roses lead singerThis year’s Q Awards ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel was given more spice than a chicken vindaloo when former Stone Roses lead singer Ian Brown was awarded The Q Legend Award.  As part of his acceptance speech he scathingly attacked Kylie Minogue.

Kylie is set to release her first album since her cancer diagnosis in 2005, and the 39-year-old Australian was in the audience and had earlier in the preceedings received the Q Idol Award in recognition of her long career.

Ian Brown said Kylie’s music was “rubbish” and “for little kids”. And went on to say “I’m sorry if it sounds like I’m putting her down, but there’s a lot of great minds out there making music and she’s not one of them.”

He went on to tell Radio 5 Live: “I don’t know what Kylie’s doing at a music awards to be honest. I don’t think she’s good-looking.”Her music’s rubbish - she makes music for little kids.”"I don’t think she’s cute, I think she’s a little devil doll. She looks like a horse!”

This follows last year’s verbal attack on Take That by Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys, when they were awarded the same Q Idol Award. I wonder who is going to want to win it next year!

Other awards included Q Lifetime Achievement to former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr and Best Act in the World Today Award to the Arctic Monkeys.

There was also a very touching moment as Tony Wilson was posthumously awarded with the Q Hero award. The former Factory Records boss died in August, aged 57. Wilson’s children - Oliver and Isobel - collected the award on behalf of their father.
