Glastonbury site owner and organiser Michael Eavis has confirmed the headlining act for 2008 will be New York rapper Jay-Z.
Eavis had previously hinted that he had booked a big, black artist from New York, to top the bill on the Pyramid Stage at this years event. Some had speculated that it might be Kayne West, but as he doesnt come from New York Jay-Z emerged as the favourite.
Eavis has said that he wanted to break with tradition this year and put on something completely different. He expects Jay-Z to appeal to the “young people and under 25’s for sure, so thats a big pull for them.”
He added “its not like the traditional one we do, like Radiohead, coldplay. Muse and Oasis.”
Other than Jay-Z, only Neil Diamond on the Sunday legends spot has been confirmed, and the organisers are hoping to keep the full line up under wraps until nearer the festival date.
