Please be standing whilst I introduce this very talented Norweigian band ‘Ovation’. The band members are Stian Sætermo Vocal, Guitar and Songwriting; Tony Andre Hansen Guitar and Backing Vocal; Raymond Hansen, Bass and Backing Vocal; Boss, Drums and Philip Moon on Lead Guitar and Backing Vocal.

Here is how Ovation describe themselves and their music.

A soft wind, blowing gently by your ears…Ovation has developed a unique pop sound which is based on a mix between country on one side to pop and rock on the other. Ovation makes everything from small productions with only a guitar, bass, perk, and vocal, to big productions with violins and symphonic blankets wrapped around a lot of vocal and backing vocal to form a majestic listening experience… so please go ahead and enjoy our music

I was recently introduced to Ovation on Soundcloud and on hearing their pop rock track ‘It’s OK’ I was immediately impressed by its uplifting lyrics, vocals, guitar riffs and bassline.

Its OK. full version. by naits79 ovation

Ovation is a band based in Sandefjord and Østfold in Norway. The line up was made complete when Philip and Boss joined the band in 2007. Since then Ovation have played at live concerts around Skandinavia. Ovation is currently working on there new album, which title is still being discussed and will be released in October, so watch this space!

Ovation are inspired and influenced by many things; not only other bands, but like all other artists individual life experiences which then has an impact on their music. The track ‘Katharina’s Song’ is a beautiful example of how Ovation perform one of the most commonly shared human experiences often expressed in the musical arena.

Katharina´s Song NEW Albumversion. whole song. by naits79 ovation

Ovation as a collective have an eclectic choice of musical tastes. Here are some bands they like, but are not necessarily influenced by :Matchbox Twenty, Coldplay, The Jayhawkes, Bruce Springsteen,Keen, Muse, U2, Live, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Julian Casablancas, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen and Queen.

Ovation are all big fans of music, but beside music they also have alternative interests. Just as an example, Tony Andre Hansen is one of the worlds best showjumpers and has participated in several world cup and euro cup show jumping competitions.

Buzzin Media wish ‘Ovation’ all the success they deserve and hope lady fortune shines down on them all to reward their hard work and determination. Watch this space for the release of their album in October!

Buzzin Media are extremely excited to promote this incredible new artist Marisela and her Debut Album - ‘She Confidential‘ which is due for release early 2011. We certainly like to keep our finger on the pulse for exciting and talented new artists and we feel confident to predict an amazing career ahead for this exceptional musician singer/songwriter from the Netherlands.

Marisela is a Latin rooted artist who at the age of 12 taught herself how to play the guitar to accompany her singing, which was one thing she was very happy she could do with such natural passion and feeling. After over 10 years fully committed to her music & artistic career, Marisela has now prepared her debut album “Marisela – ‘She Confidential’ to be released in early 2011, along with plans to prepare her first “SHE CONFIDENTIAL” Tour around Europe which we at Buzzin Media will keep you informed of dates and venues and will definitely be in amongst the crowds.

Marisela is most certainly a very versatile musician with soulful, rich and diverse vocals, outwardly expressing a passion for performing and delivering to her audience. Marisela’s style has been defined by merging different genres, from folk/acoustic sounds, to electronic, pop/rock and alternative.

Marisela successfully released her first video clip of her single “SHE CONFIDENTIAL”, in 2009 and now the world is ready to welcome another new emerging artist in her full bloom.

I asked Marisela to describe her musical journey so far and her plans for the future.

Music is my Love, my Life, my Freedom, my Passion and my Refuge. Music is the vial through which I want to experience life, as well as making the world a more harmonious place to live and share with others.”JOIN ME & LET’S ENJOY THE WONDERS OF MUSIC TOGETHER…”

Marisela

I was recommended a listen to Marisela’s track ‘19 Days’ on Soundcloud by a friend and was absolutely blown away by the power of Marisela’s emotive, soulful and passionate expression through her music. The powerful emotions she expresses via her vocals, lyrics and music sent shivers down my spine, especially when listening to the magical track ‘Like A Child‘ which is exceptional in its beautiful vocals, lyrics, subtle violin and ends magnificently with Marisela’s stunning spanish guitar.

On listening to the album I felt an immense sense of tranquility and consider this artist to have an abundance of heart and soul, as well as talent. I was completely captivated and entranced by her music, which took my imagination to the most sensational places imaginable and would only expect from the power of film. Marisela has the power to captivate the listener with her music which is completely mesmerising and is without doubt food for the soul.

I can only describe this Debut Album ‘She Confidential’ as ‘Exquisite’ and Buzzin Media will be following Marisela’s career avidly. We wish Marisela a very long and successful musical career and feel it well deserved as it is obvious the level of hard work, determination and passion Marisela has put into making her debut album.

The Live & Unsigned Festival takes place on July 10th at the Indig02 in London, promising an eclectic variety of music including indie, rock, pop, acoustic and urban flavours.

Being the largest original music competition in the UK for unsigned bands and artists Live & Unsigned has attracted over 30,000 entries during the past three years and sets itself apart from previous competitions by offering and promoting live, original music and being open to all genres of music from Heavy Rock to Rap.

Among this years finalists are the winning band from the Southern England heat, The Novatones from Chandlers Ford , Southampton.

After initially auditioning against thousands of other acts across the UK and impressing the judging panel with their originality, The Novatones went on to perform live on stage at the Southern England Final on 30th May at the Portsmouth Guildhall in Portsmouth.

Dazzling the audience and judges alike, The Novatones won the chance to go into the Grand Final at the Indig02 in London where they will perform on the main stage in front of a live crowd and judging panel.

Some of the biggest names in the industry will be there to cast their eye over the unsigned talent including the legendary Noddy Holder, Urban DJ, Presenter and Radio 1’s Ras Kwame and RnB mega star Shola Ama.

The overall winner of Live & Unsigned stands to take home a package including equipment, coverage and promotion. They will also be offered a recording and management contract with Future Music to release their single and they will get the opportunity to develop their own clothing brand to sell online and in retail with Extreme State.

We were invited to see The Novatones performing at Hamptons in Southampton last week, a bad choice of venue it would appear that did not do justice to The Novatones or any of the other bands playing on the night.

Our reviewer Pete Rouse writes;

Though I found the set slightly brief, around 30 minutes, I found their sound very strong and generally very enjoyable. However I was disappointed with the venue, as I don’t believe that the size of the place was able to handle or carry their sound to its full potential.

On a bigger, more thought out venue, this band would certainly be worthy of watching, purely for the fact that each member of the band looked as though they were thoroughly enjoying themselves.

At times I found that I was listening to something I had heard before and not overly unique, however this isn’t to say that I wouldn’t listen to them again. Their avid followers would certainly disagree with me I’m sure, though I still believe the venue was partly to blame.

However as a band which has now reached the finals of Live and Unsigned at the O2 Arena this summer, I may well have missed something key at this performance. Though something I didn’t miss was a fantastic cover of The Who.

I believe that this review hasn’t done this band the justice they deserve, much like the venue, and following a conversation with the guys after their set, they will be playing at regular spots, The Brook and The Joiners over the next coming months – venues which I know will do them justice, and also an opportunity I hope to re-write something which gives them the credit they have proved they deserve – I mean come on, any band who can write a song about a failed bank robbery is worthy of a second watch if for nothing else but to hear “Don’t Rob Banks” again.

Frank Turner releases the fourth single from his Top 40 album Poetry of the Deed on August 2nd, the track Try This At Home, is a raucous call to arms. Embodying the true spirit of punk rock – it is all about the DIY ethos that drives the punk scene and encourages anyone and everyone to pick up a guitar, jot down some words, and just give it go.

With this spirit in mind, Frank Turner is offering the chance for a new, unsigned act to record a B side for the single.

In a fantastic, one-off competition Frank, together with labels Xtra Mile Recordings (UK) and Epitaph Records (rest of the world) is asking for new and original music to be sent to him for consideration for the b-side. There will be two winners chosen by Frank together with Kerrang! in the UK and Alternative Press in the USA – with both winning tracks included as the B-Sides of a limited edition coloured vinyl – 1000 copies each for the UK and the rest of the world.

For more information and details of how to enter the competition go to:

Galapaghost is the conception of Casey Chandler, a 22 year old graduate of music production.

During the summer of 2009, Chandler began writing a new batch of songs with his ukele.

His style began to take influence from bands he’d always admired like Midlake, Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele, and Neil Young. His song craft drastically changed and he focused more on arrangements and vocal melodies, rather than riffs. Instead of being overindulgent with his mixes and doing excessive layering with his songs like he did with past songs, Chandler decided to peel back layers.

This has opened up his songs and allowed for more organic growth. More importantly, the mixes weren’t being suffocated by too much instrumentation anymore. Apparently due to his post-graduate poor financial situation,Casey Chandler’s recording equipment is extremely limited. Instead of seeing this as a crutch, he saw this as a blessing. He claims to work best under limitations.

In the Autumn of 2009, armed with only an Shure SM57, an MBox, a few guitars, and some cheap percussion instruments, Casey Chandler began his first recordings for Galapaghost. Holed up in a tiny apartment in Queens, New York he recorded his first EP entitled Our Lost Generation in just two days.

Recording around his day job he completed recordings in two back to back 12 hour days. Another few days of mixing and his six song, 20 minute EP was finished. A couple months later, Casey Chandler recorded his 2nd and latest EP as Galapaghost entitled Neptunes, which is another six song, 20 minute EP.

Casey Chandler wrote, played, recorded, and mixed every song on both EP’s. He released both EP’s on iTunes.

Why not be different this year and go along to see the unsigned band’s of the moment performing for the right to become the festival headliners of the future – see them now before they make it big and bore your mates forever with “I saw them before they had a record deal’ stories!

There are a lot of bands that go to U.S. campuses to search for the perfect vocalists and other musicians that would fit in their group. They conduct auditions and various musical events to discover new and unadulterated talent. In connection to this, some of the most famous universities like Berkeley, as well as musicians from many music institutes in Los Angeles, go on tours to find the best talent that many schools have to offer.

Advantages of College Tours

One advantage of these college tours is that they are able to find raw talent at educational institutes. They can be assured that most of the students are fresh faces that are not yet signed by any record company.

Aside from this, these tours are able to find talent that is best suited for most bands. Music bands look for fresh talent, because most of the students, who audition in the college tour musician tryouts, have been well trained because of the various music programs that their colleges organize.

Also, some of the college music groups go on tours themselves to represent their college, such as Berkeley, in various choral group contests.

Band managers and music producers just have to monitor these state-wide contests to find the perfect member for their band.

Additional Points

These schools do not discriminate against race or colour. In fact, one school is already auditioning and training African American students for their music program. This is to avoid any racial negativity. As long as you can play an instrument or sing a song, you would still have a chance to get into their bands. There are many types of accommodation for these student musicians. If you are a budding musician travelling to or near Arizona, you can look for some University of Arizona apartments to stay.

College tours will definitely help you be discovered. So if you want to share your talent, be active in all school events and band auditions.

The Red Bull Bedroom Jam – Monday 14th September 2009

I have only just recovered from the launch of the second season of The Red Bull Bedroom Jam at the Sanctum Hotel in Soho, London.

While the Sanctum did not seem the obvious venue to host the post-hardcore-emo-pop-punk-rock party, Red Bull pulled out all the stops to make sure that the second annual party was about as stereotypical rock n roll as possible – from hot tubs to naked rock stars running around the patio!

Throughout the night Attack! Attack! (not to be confused with the American Attack Attack!), Saving Aimee and Young Guns played short sets in the Penthouse Suite.

With the mattresses pushed up against the walls and friends and fans sitting in bathtubs, the only word to describe the atmosphere was intimate.

Disappointingly, the plug was pulled on The Blackout after only one song, as the council decided we were all having a little too much fun… okay, well there may have been some noise complaints as well.

Due to very limited space each in room-come-venue, I really only had a chance to see Saving Aimee and Attack! Attack! However, neither disappointed.

Saving Amiee delivered upbeat 1980’s influenced synth pop rock, and although not all that original, the set was a lot of fun and the band exhibited great energy, particularly during the performance of their new singles ‘Fresh Since ‘88’ and ‘We’re the Good Guys’.

Next up were the guys from Attack! Attack! from Wales. These guys have been creating a lot of buzz in the UK music scene recently and I was quite excited to get the chance to finally see them play. Clearly drawing influence from bands like the LostProfits and Fall Out Boy, this four piece also had impressive energy as they belted out their infectious pop-punk songs. So infectious in fact that my friend (who would have rather been at a Beyonce gig) even started tapping her foot.

As the music came to an early end, the party continued well into the night, with mattresses moved over in front of the windows to try and muffle the noise. As one guest put it while running around the patio in his boxers “It’s a Fucking Pop Punk Party!”

The Red Bull Bedroom Jam was started in order to help unsigned bands gain exposure through an online platform.

In order to have an opportunity to be showcased bands must upload videos of themselves performing in their bedrooms. People then login to the Red Bull website to vote for their favourite acts, and the lucky winners are given the chance to play a live gig. It is a great idea and way to support up and coming acts.

You can check out videos from the night on www.redbullbedroomjam.com.

The weekly two hour show, called Music Unleashed Top 40, is to be presented by Jordan Thomas and Murray Golding and will air on Tourdates.co.uk every Sunday from 5-7pm.

The chart, in its 140th edition, is based entirely on plays and downloads by the Tourdates community. The show will also be made available free of charge to community radio stations, student radio and selected online radio stations.

Tourdates CEO, Jarrod Robinson, said:

“Since we first launched the chart in Dec ’06 upcoming bands and music lovers alike have used it as a barometer for what’s happening in the underground scene, so it made perfect sense to create a show around the chart and make that available to community stations across the UK. It’s a win-win-situation – artists and Tourdates get more exposure, with the stations getting access to a professionally produced show with fresh new content.”

Win A Recording Slot For Your Unsigned Band

To celebrate the launch of the chart show, Tourdates will be inviting an unsigned band to go in to the studio for three days to record two songs with long standing producer Paul Tipler. The lucky band will be hand picked from the Unsigned Top 40 between August and September. All bands in the chart are in the running, not just those who reach the number one slot. Paul Tipler has been working in studios and producing records for over 20 years, and is always on the look out for exciting new bands to work with. He has worked on both singles and albums for a wide variety of bands and artists, including Placebo, Idlewild, The Charlatans and Atomic Kitten, to name but a few.

The Tourdates site provides a platform for DIY music makers to promote themselves alongside mainstream acts, gigs performed in London will also appear automatically in the London Tourdates magazine.

There are currently over 5,000 tracks for music lovers to listen to online or download as well as videos, blogs a comprehensive gig guide and music news.
