This new track from Death Cab For Cutie was Zane Lowe’s ‘Hottest Record In The World’ on his Radio 1 show last week, Meet Me On The Equinox is released on Monday October 12th on Atlantic Records.

Meet Me On The Equinox is the first single to be taken from the much anticipated soundtrack album to the film The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Death Cab For Cutie bassist Nick Harmer said;

“We wrote ‘Meet Me On the Equinox’ to reflect the celestial themes and motifs that run throughout the Twilight series, and we wanted to capture that desperate feeling of endings and beginnings that so strongly affect the main characters, this song marks the first attempt that Death Cab for Cutie has ever made at contributing new, unreleased material for a film. It just seems a perfect synergy that a band from the Northwest would create a song for a series of novels set in the Northwest. We are not only proud to be a part of the Twilight legacy but also honored to join so many other fantastic artists that have lent their amazing creativity to this soundtrack.”

The Twilight Saga: New Moon Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is released on October 19th, while the film opens in cinemas across the UK on November 20th.

This promo video for Meet Me On The Equinox features previously unseen footage from the film;

In 1966, arguably British pop music’s finest era, the BBC played only two hours of rock and roll every week. But pirate radio blasted rock and pop from the high seas 24 hours a day. And 25 million people, more than half the population of Britain, listened to these pirates every single day.

The special cinema screening will be welcomed by the many Foo Fighters fans who missed the original gigs at Wembley Stadium, the high point of the band’s career according to frontman Dave Grohl this week.

Foo Fighters were famously joined on stage by members of Led Zeppelin for the final night, June 7th. Rumours were rife all the previous week that Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones would join Grohl and his band on stage for their last night at the stadium.

In a rousing finale the ’supergroup’ performed classics Rock And Roll and Ramblin’ On, with Grohl switching to drums and Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins on lead vocals.

Grohl had primed the audience early in the show, saying “We’re gonna do something that we have never done at a Foo Fighters show and its gonna blow your shit out the door! Tonight this is gonna be the show that we’re gonna be talking about for the next 20 years!”

As Page and Jones left the stage an emotional Dave Grohl announced:

“Welcome to the greatest fucking day of my life!”

But when I discovered that the album consists of ten covers of Tom Waits songs, I was surprised and very interested.

Just what songs are covered by Johansson we don’t know as there is no track listing available, but the title is Anywhere I lay my head and the release date May 20.

The actress collaborates with Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner on the album which was recorded at Louisiana’s Dockside studios and produced by David Sitek.

Johansson raised her credibility with music fans last year when she sang on stage with The Jesus and Mary Chain at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California. She has also appeared in Justin Timberlake’s video for What goes around.

Troubled EMI chief Guy Hands has failed to make an impression on ancient rockers The Rolling Stones, who’s contract expires with the company in May. The band are looking at alternative options with Universal Music the most likely, after agreeing to release the soundtrack album for the Martin Scorcese film, Shine a light, through Universals Polydor label.

Despite the fact that the Stones are all in their sixties, they remain one of EMI’s top money spinners, generating over £3 million a year for the company.

A spokesman for EMI has said that they have had no indication that the Rolling Stones have any intention of signing to any other record label.

Head in the sand or what!
