lower than atlantis

Having released the second single Deadliest Catch from their upcoming second album this week, Lower Than Atlantis have announced that they will be streaming the new album World Record ahead of it’s release on April 25th.

You can hear the new album in its entirety on the Lower Than Atlantis My Space now, before its official release date on April 25th.

The bands intense bond with their fans is set to shine through with the music video for ‘Deadliest Catch’ for which they are accepting fan submissions to be included in the lyric-themed concept.

From the opening life-on-the-road anthem ‘(Motor) Way of Life’ right through to closer ‘R.O.I.,’ ‘World Record’ is an album bursting with exuberance and packed with massive rock hooks. Lower Than Atlantis prove that they’ve hit their stride, honing their songwriting skills to pure brilliance following the release of 2010’s critically acclaimed debut ‘Far Q.’

High octane tracks like first single ‘Beech Like The Tree’ and ‘Bug’ appear alongside more contemplative compositions like ‘High At Five’ – the sound of a band carving out their own identity in today’s music scene – and ‘Another Sad Song’ which is as melancholy as its title suggests. Despite the contrasting dynamics on the album, one thing that all the tracks have in common is a keen sense of melody and crafty riffery, backed up by a rhythm section that pulls no punches.

Mike Duce (vocals/guitar) says of the progression the band have made for the creation of this album:

“Writing was pretty natural because we’re with each other so much, we’ve all been listening to the same music and had the same influences. When it came to working on the songs, we all kind of knew where we were going. Recording was very efficient! We’d already demo’d the album live and then in a studio before recording the real thing so we knew exactly what we were playing and how we were playing it.

The tunings for most of the songs have dropped two whole steps to add a darker feel. The tempo of the songs has slowed down too to give a more powerful feel and to make sure the listener definitely has time to get the message. There’s less of a jokey undertone lyrically so I guess it’s more ‘grown up’.”

Lower Than Atlantis look set to ride high on the wave of new British rock talent with this collection of songs, having already picked up some serious airplay on the likes of Radio 1, Scuzz and Kerrang!

Touring is next on the agenda for the band who are currently on a mammoth tour of the USA supporting Asking Alexandria. When they return to the UK, LTA will head straight out with We Are The Ocean for a string of dates in their homeland to coincide with the release of ‘World Record.’

The band have also been announced to perform at several summer festival’s including slot on the Pepsi Max stage at Download on Sunday June 12th as well as dates with Futures and Set Your Goals.

Xtra Mile Recording artist Frank Turner will be playing his 1000th live show since September 18th 2004 this month. The event will be marked at the Strummerville Spring Session gig on April 21st at Hearn Street Car Park in East London. The event will be a real celebration of Frank’s prolific work ethic whilst raising money and awareness for a great cause.

Frank will then head out on a sold out solo tour of the UK in May, with a couple of summer festivals confirmed at the Download Festival where he will headline on June 12th on the Third Stage and another headline spot at Blissfields Festival on July 1st.

The folk punk poet has already been confirmed for an appearance on the main stage at the brilliant Leeds/Reading Festival this year and is currently preparing his brand new album England Keep My Bones for release later in the year.

The album track I am Disappeared can be heard below, as a brilliant teaser for what to expect on the new album.

Having been busy in the studio writing and recording new material over the last couple of months, Frank Turner has emerged with news of his impending album release, along with news of an intimate UK solo tour and some exciting summer festival appearances.

Folk rocker Turner will release his fourth album on June 6th in the UK & Ireland (XtraMile Recordings) and June 7th (Epitaph Records) in the rest of the world, it is entitled England Keep My Bones.

Recorded in Crouch End’s stunning Church Studios, Frank, together with his band and producer Tristan Ivemy has, as the name of the album suggests, created a record with the quintessential English sound Frank has been searching for.

Unsurprisingly, for an artist who spends the majority of his time travelling around the world, ‘England Keep My Bones‘ has a nostalgic feel to it – an homage to his homeland, friends and family he so often has to leave behind. With the acoustic guitar very much at its core, the album is more folky than predecessor ‘Poetry Of The Deed‘ and even includes an a cappella song done in a traditional English style.

Featuring contributions from ex-Hold Steady keyboardist Franz Nicolay, folk singers Emily Barker and Chris T-T, and Unbelievable Truth’s Andy Yorke, he covers themes of mortality, relationships and religion in what is a bold, ballsy yet beautiful album.

Frank says: “I can’t wait to get this record out there. The new songs have been going down really well live, but I think that when people hear the studio versions they’re going to go nuts. I think it’s the strongest set of material I’ve had on one record.”

Frank Turner will be showcasing some of these tracks when he takes to the road for a special solo tour in May. Playing small and intimate venues up and down the country, this will be a fantastic chance to see Frank up close and personal before he spends the summer playing to vast crowds of festival go-ers all over the world.

Legendary punk rocker Michael Monroe is hitting the UK again this summer having just been announced for the infamous Download Festival 2010! While the band demos new material in NYC for their debut, they’re still finding time to get a few summer festival appearances in.

After a sensational stint at SXSW this year followed by a captivating debut UK show earlier this month at London’s Islington Academy, the band, completed by Ginger from The Wildhearts, Sami Yaffa, Steve Conte and Karl Rosqvist, are more than a little bit excited to revisit the UK audiences.

Ginger shared some fond memories of Download;
“Fuck yeah!! Download is the first and the best. I was educated at Donnington Monsters Of Rock, it was always the place where magic happened and the stories would last a year until the next one. I’ve had so many great moments at this festival (bad acid trips, public blowjobs by complete strangers, arms impaled onstage by the Psycho Cyborgs …the list goes on) and playing here with Michael Monroe continues the theme of great moment after great moment. We’re bringing the punk, we’re bringing the rock n roll, now all we need is you. Be there or be elsewhere.”

Great stuff, Rock & Roll or what?
